SAILING THE DANUBE AND MELK

 Today we spent most of the day in the lounge watching Austria go by.  We were sailing down the Danube on our way to Passau, Germany.  On the way we stopped at Melk, Austria and saw the Melk Abby.  It was mostly relaxing and watching as we passed by vineyards growing white grapes, on impossible hills, to produce Riesling Wine.  These people spent countless years building terraces, on the steep hills,  to plant rows of grape vines.  The grapes are harvested in November by hard working Eastern Europeans that come back every year to harvest. Depending on how much sunlight the grapes get the wine will be dry or sweet.  I personally like suss, or sweet wine.  Here are some pictures from today.
