Jerry and Nonette's Travels Summer - Fall 2010

Beginning in August Nonette and I have been checking things off our bucket list.  We started in August with a trip to Maui.  We stayed at the Sheraton Maui Resort for a week.  By the way Nonette re-entered Maui back on the bucket list on our return.  While on this trip we also visited Jackson, Becca and Claire in Culver City Ca.  I also made it to the Pamona swap meet, which is one of the largest old car parts swap meets and auto shows in the country.  Holding and rocking Claire was a highlight of the trip.

Later in October I went to Hershey Pa. for a week to the Hershey fall swap meet and auto show.  There we about 2000 antique and classic cars in the auto show and more classic car parts vendors than you could shake a stick at.  In conjunction with the auto show and swap meet there was a classic car auction conducted by RM Auctions.  Through my connection with the Antique Automobile Club of America, I was able to be a worker at this auction, where I helped get the cars on and off the stage.  In two nights they sold about 200 cars.  The most expensive of which was a 1929 Duesenberg that sold for $748,000.  About 75% of the cars in this auction were built before 1940. A completely run down 1898 Stanley Steamer, being the oldest car sold.  It brought $75000.

Nonette flew into Philadelphia on Sunday after all the automobile activities and we went to the Hershey factory.  She had a Spa Day at the Hotel Hershey the next day where they wrapped her in Chocolate. She smelled like a Hershey Bar for 24 hours; yum yum.  While in Pa. we got lost on the back roads of the Amish country driving through the farm land seeing the Amish farms and the buggies the people travel in.

While driving through the country we happened onto a winery.  We toured The Vintage Winery and  bought some of their local wine that was very good.

On our last day in Pa. we went driving through the country side to The Hawk Mountain Bird Sanctuary.  We hiked up this mountain in the Poconos and looked out over the valleys, where the leaves were starting to change to their fall color.

We left Pa. and are now in Birmingham, Alabama where we are visiting with Taylor and Tiffany.

On November 2nd I will be leaving for Las Vegas for the annual SEMA show.  This show fills the Las  Vegas convention center.  Every company that sells anything automotive in this country will have a booth there.  You could buy every part to build and paint an antique car, hot rod, or motor cycle.  This is a Car Guys Meca.

After the SEMA show Nonette is flying in to L.A. where I will meet her.  We will then spend several days trying to Spoil Claire.
