Audie Murphy was on a burning tank, down by those trees facing this way.

4 German tanks and 250 Germans were coming from this village.  It was January and around 0 degrees, Audie said he wouldn't get down because the burning tank was warm.  He was wounded twice with all his men safe in the forest behind him.  He Kicked some serious butt and held the Germans off while help was coming. He received The Congressional Medal of Honor in June 1945.
