ANNECY FRANCE

We left the cruise this morning and caught a train to ANNECY. Part of our train ride was on the TGV which is a train that goes 180 miles an hour. Just got here but have a few pictures for you.

ARLES, FRANCE

We spent the day in Arles; another Roman City at one time.  This is the area of France called Provence.  Lots of pretty villages along the Rhone River.  The painter Van Gogh spent the last years of his life here painting many of his most important works.

TOURNON FRANCE

Today we visited Tourney, France.  The excursion for the day was a steam train ride up  through the mountains to the top  of one of those mountains.  We sat on the wrong side of the train and didn't get that many good pictures.  The afternoon was spent sailing down the Rhone toward Avignon.  After dinner we went to a Dance Party where we danced to lots of oldies including YMCA as you can see, in the pictures, but also, All My Exes Live In Texas, with a French accent.  Tomorrow Arles.  Enjoy the pictures.  The internet is slow on the ship; it takes about 6 hours to upload these pictures.

VIENNE, FRANCE

We spent the day in Vienne, France.  The Romans came here in the second century BC.   There is a very good Museum dedicated to the time when the Romans were here.  At the end of the pictures you will see The Temple of Augustus which is one of the only intact Roman temples left in the world.  In a recent PBS special it was said to be one of the ten most important buildings that contributed to modern architecture.   Enjoy a few pictures.  Sorry for the delay; bad internet service right now.

We went to a church just before a wedding.

Beautiful arches and my beauty.

Jefferson was the Ambassador to France.  The front of his home; Monticello looks just like this as do many government building in our country.  They look like this because Jefferson was so impressed by this building that it's design inspired many buildings; and this is a small town in southern France.
