BERLIN

We spent the day in Berlin. We visited the Jewish Memorial, what remains of the Berlin Wall, Brandenburg Gate, Checkpoint Charley, at the entrance to the American sector and we made it to the Mall of Berlin. We did it all walking; we are getting in shape. Enjoy the pictures.

VOLKSWAGEN FACTORY

Today we visited the Volkswagen factory in Wolfsburg, Germany.  They have a great museum where most of the pictures come out from. We took a tour of the factory and saw them building Golfs. They have 70,000 people working at this factory building 3,500 cars a day. This is the original VW factory built in 1938. During the War they built military vehicles. I got to drive a VW toureg around the off road proving grounds.

A RAINY DAY TURNED BEAUTIFUL

We had a rainout this morning but we had a beautiful overcast afternoon. We took a chairlift ride to the top of a mountain to get a view of the Mosel River. Later we walked up a mountain to Cochem Castle. You can tell from the pictures that mountain is pretty high. After being at the castle for about 20 minutes or butts finally caught up to us at the top. The trip down was very enjoyable. We had a lovely picnic by the river that you can tell from the picture below, was low cal and low cholesterol. We followed the picnic with warm apple strudel with ice cream and whipped cream; another healthy choice.

COCHEM AND BEILSTEIN GERMANY

Today we are visiting Cochem and taking a ship up the Mosel river to Beilstein. This  may be the best place yet. Beautiful towns on the river with vineyards on the sides of mountains in between. It was a great relaxing boat ride between the towns. One more day here tomorrow before we are off to Wolfsburg and the original VW factory and museum and a day trip to Berlin. We don't like big cities but need to see the Wall and check point charlie.
