Olympia Greece

Olympia was the sight of the very first Olympic games in around 750 BC.  All the buildings and temples are now in ruins but the stadium and field are much as they were back in the day.  Enjoy the pictures. I have added four posts today.  Make sure you look at all four.  They are all about the Greek islands we visited.

Nearly 2800 years ago the Ancient Greeks were walking here.

This is where they held the first Olympic games.
It is also where they light the Olympic flame that is carried to the sight of the modern Olympics.

There is a museum on the sight.

The dug up this Ancient Greek and you can see a glass bottle that was buried nest to his head.  The picture below is that bottle in the museum.

Mykonos Greece

 Mykonos was our third island visit in Greece.  It was nice but how you gonna keep them down on the farm after they've seen Santorini.  Our cruise ship Jade was great.  The food was very good, the shows were very good, the weather was beautiful, but the slot machines were very stingy.

Santorini Greece

Santorini Greece is the classic Greek island.  The buildings are all whitewashed and clean and the domes of the churches are all blue like the ocean.  Most of these pictures are in the village of Oia.  It was about a 30 minute bus ride from the port to Oia.  This is one beautiful village.  Enjoy the photos.  My pictures do not do justice to the beauty of the water in the Mediterranean.  It is a beautiful blue.

Corfu Greece

Corfu Greece was an important strategic point on the Adriatic Sea.  It was originally built by the Venetians to help with their trade with the East.  The buildings are like the buildings in Venice.  Enjoy the pictures of Corfu.  Check back today to see the rest of the posts from our visits to all the Greek islands.

A MESSAGE FROM GREECE

We are still alive and doing well on the Cruise.  We are cruising on The Norwegian Jade through the Greek Islands.  The internet on the ship is slower than dial-up and costs 75 cents per minute.  To download the pictures for a blog would cost more than our vacation.  I am in a restaurant in Katalono Greece that has wifi for the cost of a Mythos beer, and the beer is pretty good.  I am sending you this message just to keep you informed that there will be more blogs to come, but, right now, we will not be able to post more until we get to our first Agritourismo in Italy.  So stay tuned and keep checking back.

Here's Nonette on the deck of the Jade.  This ship is 950 feet long and has 2000 guests.  It has 13 decks with 2 pools and about 15 places to eat.  We are having a great time on the Greek islands and getting fat.  keep checking back and we will do more posts when we get back on land in Italy.
